Day 17: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Leap Day Love) Leap of Kindness Day

Day 17: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Leap Day Love)

Today as we #spreadlovelikejelly I’m inspired by LEAP DAY! We get 366 days this year to choose joy and spread love. That’s awesome. How we choose to spend this extra day matters too! This morning, I’m proud to say I’m from New York when I noticed several New York State towns banding together to share love and spread kindness.

Today, I challenge you to use your extra day to spread love however you can.

I noticed my friend from Saratoga, NY posting a photo on Facebook this morning indicating that she was doing something kind for her children’s teachers with #leapofkindnessday. I was impressed. I loved it. I wanted to participate too.

So I started to do some research and was really happy to find that the entire town of Saratoga was participating in a pay-it-forward style day of kindness. You can see what they are up to on their website. All over the town people were delivering cookies to fire departments and going out of their way to spread some cheer and good will.

I think its awesome to take advantage of having an extra day in the year to choose to be more kind to those around us. What a fantastic celebration! You can check out what else is happening in Saratoga on their Facebook page and also tell them what you’ve been up to by tagging your social media posts with #leapofkindnessday. There’s a pretty great news story about it here.

I looked around further to see that Canandaigua, NY had also jumped on the band wagon for making today an extra day of charity and kindness.#leapofkindnessday #spreadlovelikejelly www.lovetheeveryday.com

Today I did not have lots of time to prepare for this as I just read about it this morning. So my contributions were just adding better coffee and creamer to the staff lounge for my coworkers. We generally get Folgers coffee for free, but no one really cares for it. So I stopped on the way in to get some yummier blends.  However, I plan to try to make today great by including as much kindness as I can into my day. What will you do?

Day 16: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Embrace God’s Love)

Day 16: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Embrace God’s Love)

Day 16: Spread love like jelly challenge (embrace God’s Love)

Today is one of those perfect blue-skyed days that makes your heart just sing with happiness. I’m headed out to the slopes to go skiing with my little brother and life feels good.

I’m feeling a little guilty about not heading into church this week, or last week, or the week before. A big part of my childhood starts echoing in my ears (baptist church teachings of fire and brimstone) and I start to feel that well-known guilt.

And then I remember- Jesus loves me no matter what! And today I can be much closer to God, sitting in nature on a chair lift and admiring his beauty than I could be in my seat at church. (Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself).

So today I challenge you to lean into God, embrace his love: no matter who you are or what you’ve done, grace and love are gifts to you this day and all days. Jesus was a rule breaker too- and he loves you.

Day 15: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Love your Pets)

Day 15: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Love your Pets)

Sponsor a challenge they said. Write every day they said. It will be awesome… they were right. It is awesome. But it sure is a lot more difficult to write everyday than I had anticipated. I’m sorry for missing yesterday. It was a horrible day at work and a long day of cleaning the house to prepare for our next guests!

Today though, on challenge day 16, which we are going to pretend is day 15….
I challenge you to focus on loving the furriest

members of your family.

I don’ t think it needs to be repeated how important dogs are in our lives. From lowering blood pressure to being the ideal exercise partner I think it’s covered all over the web how important dogs can be to their humans.

If you know me in my real life at all, you know that my pups are members of my family, and important ones at that. I am thankful for them every day because they never fail to put a smile on my face and greet me at the door, butts wagging.www.lovetheeveryday.com | #spreadlovelikejelly | How to best love your dog

However, sometimes I know that I come home from work and am easily irritated by them. No matter how busy I am though, or how terrible my day is they are still showering me with affection. Sometimes I do not reciprocate. I kick them off the couch, don’t want to play and haven’t had the time to give them the attention they deserve. They don’t care how bad my day was, or how awful my hair looks, they just want a belly rub.

Our pets are our biggest cheerleaders, our most loyal companions and literally members of our family. Researchers have shown that dogs even can feel the same kinds of love for their owners that young children feel for their parents. Now, that’s cool. #spreadlovelikejelly | www.lovetheeveryday.com | Love your pets today.

Today I challenge you to accept the love that the furry members of  your family are dying to lavish upon you, make time for the belly rub, and #spreadlovelikejelly.

Day 14: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Feel the Love)

Day 14: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Feel the Love)

Today, I am making a list of all the things I can think of that make me feel loved.  I think part of spreading love and choosing joy is recognizing what things in our lives make us feel loved. Without noticing when and how and why I feel like I am loved, how can I best recognize that it others?

So I brainstorm, and today I challenge you to brainstorm too! Create a list of the things in your life that make you feel loved. Contemplate the simple things and the big things. This really helped me to recognize the ways in which my own loved ones must like to be loved!

  • coffee already made in the morning
  • hugs
  • notes from my students
  • real mail in my mailbox
  • when my husband packs my lunch
  • the wagging tails of my dogs when I get home
  • phone calls from friends
  • people who keep their promises
  • when my husband pumps gas for my car
  • when my mother signs all her notes “love you bunches”
  • coming home from work and finding the bed made
  • fresh flowers

What kinds of things make you feel loved?

Day 13: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Be Present)

Day 13: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Be Present)

Day 13: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Be Present)

I think that one of the biggest ways we can show love to those around us is to take a really long look at how we walk around this earth. Am I actually listening to what that person is saying or am I thinking about what I’m going to say next? Or worse, am I thinking about lunch? (I’m often thinking about lunch). Did I make eye contact with that cashier even once? Did I focus energy on appreciating the story being told by the 7th grader in my class or did I just offer him an “uh-huh”?

I’m particularly terrible at this when I’m sitting on the couch with my husband…simultaneously watching tv, looking at Pinterest and trying to have a conversation with him. If there's one thing I know it's that I am a terrible multitasker! Click To Tweet I need to choose love. I need to choose to prioritize my husband over my social media accounts.

So today, my challenge is to be mindful of being in the moment. Be present. And on that note- I’m turning off my electronics and enjoying my family.

#spreadlovelikejelly #choosejoy

Good luck with this one today friends! #spreadlovelikejelly
