Day 1: Spread Love Like Jelly Challenge (Love yourself)

I have found that some of my most successful and beautiful days begin when I have made a conscious effort to start the day positively. Sometimes, for me, that means just making time for a few extra moments in the morning to brew hot coffee and breathe deeply. Other days, that means long lingering bubble baths in candle light. What does it mean for you?

My number one suggestion here is to find ways that you can show yourself love, embrace positivity and enhance the human experience.

Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. My favorite way to start the day is to set my alarm five minutes earlier. (I know this sounds crazy right?) But in those five minutes I can do so many things I otherwise wouldn’t have time for.
    1. Write in a gratitude journal ( I love this one and may do an entire post on this later this week!)
    2. Strike a few yoga poses
    3. Linger under the hot water in the shower
    4. Actually iron my skirt
    5. Play some quick fetch with the dogs
  1. Eat breakfast. This sounds silly right? Breakfast means loving myself? But yes, yes it does! By starting the day with the right nutrition you have given yourself a positive jump-start on everything else you have to do that day. I like to make sure I’m eating something that makes me happy and won’t make me feel like I’ve undone all my other healthy eating. (Although some days I just need a bowl of Lucky Charms). Right now I’m loving strawberry oatmeal smoothies as a start to the day! Its yummy and pink and good for me! Also, I can get this ready in those extra five minutes I set the alarm for.

  1. SLEEP! Like seriously, sleep a lot. Sleeping is not only essential for overall well-being but it is crucial for mental health. By getting enough sleep you are being good to your body as well as your mind. Harvard School of Medicine has proven that a lack of sleep contributes to higher stress levels. What an easy way to love yourself and limit stress!Apparently sleep can increase happiness in a whole bunch of ways. While we sleep our bodies are able to fend of illness as well as balance all the crazy hormones and chemicals that can lead to depression. For me personally, I know if I don’t get 7-8 hours of sleep at night I turn into a monster that I do not recognize. My moods are so drastically affected by the amount of sleep I can catch in a night.

  1. I love this post so much! We must love ourselves in order to love those around us. For some reason I always think of when you are on an airplane, they always tell you to put your air mask on first and then assist those around you. It’s so true that in order to truly love those and help those around you, you must take care of yourself first. Thanks for this simple reminder, great post!
