Day 3: Spread Love Like Jelly (Send a handwritten note)

Day 3: Give a hand written card to express thanks, concern or to encourage.

When I walk to the mail box and pull out only bills, my heart hurts a little bit. I received a really nice note and book in the mail from my grandmother this week and I was happy all day. She simply told me she was thinking about me and that she loved me. That’s it. Nothing fancy. But she showed her love, in an easy and tangible way.

One of the best parts about this is that now I get to keep that note as a memento forever. It not only lifted my spirits on the day that I received it, but I’ll be able to look back on it again and again.

Today, in order to #spreadlovelikejelly, I plan to send Valentine’s Day cards to my single friends to let them know how much I love them. It only takes a few minutes and a stamp but it will be a really awesome surprise for them.

When I was in college my best friend’s mother would send me a handwritten note or card almost every month. Inside would be packed full of words of encouragement and statements of love, along with a handful of magazine clippings carefully chosen to make me smile. I think when I was young I took that action for granted. Of course I would get excited to peek into my mailbox in the dorm hallway and see the colorful envelope and familiar handwriting, but I don’t think I realized what a commitment she was making or the effort she put forth to ensure I received some love in the mail.

It really speaks volumes now, in this digital age we live in, when someone takes the time to put pen to paper.

Who will you write to today? Even a note in your child’s lunch box, or tucked into your spouse’s jacket pocket could really turn their day around.
