Gratitude Journey
I’m not sure how it is going for those of you following along with me on this year’s journey toward being more grateful. But, this morning when I looked through my blog site stats and saw that the number one search term that people use to find my site is:
My husband thinks I’m fat
I started to feel a little bit bad about those of you who are following me. I want you to search for positive and happy things when you stumble across my blog! So, my goal today is to lift you up a bit. Because, we all need that from time to time.
I want you to grab your gratitude journal, or just a sheet of paper and start making a list. Right now. If you were to write down all of your dreams about yourself, your ideal, perfect self. What would they be? This is going to make you feel a littler vulnerable, maybe even a little silly, but that’s ok. Do it anyway. Write your dreams like they are facts, because they should be. Here are mine.
My ideal self
- I am an excellent mother.
- I am a good house keeper.
- I am organized.
- I am a desirable wife.
- I am a lifelong friend.
- I am a published author.
- I am punctual.
- I raise polite children.
- I’m on the NY Times bestseller list.
- I am creative.
- I am fit.
- I have a vegetable garden.
- I have a successful Etsy shop.
- I am a runner.
- I am healthy.
- I am the owner of a business.
- I brew excellent beer.
- I’m a great teacher.
- I take award winning photographs.
- I get paid to be a travel blogger.
- I know how to make jelly.
- I have beachfront property.
- I finished my spring cleaning list.
- I know sign language.
Now, I know some of these are silly, some of them are easy, and some of them are stretches, but thats the point, really. To take a look at what your brain perceives to be dreams, and start thinking about how to make them statements of fact.
On your list, what things do you look at and automatically start to talk down to yourself? “You can’t be on the NY Times best seller list! You don’t even know where to begin!”
What items does your brain immediately tick off as “impossible” or shout at you that you are “unworthy”?
For me they are the big things. The things which require risk and gumption. So for now, I’m just making the list. But I intend to start making those dreams real.
Today’s gratitude
- I am grateful that I have big dreams.
- I am lucky that I have people in my life to support those dreams.
- I feel blessed to live in a country where women are allowed to dream big and that I can teach my daughter to spread her own wings too.
So for now, as I start to make plans to accomplish those dreams, I’m going to start by planting the little cucumber plants I brought home from the store today. Because, I have a vegetable garden, you know?
Dream big friends.
